Team Lead – Machine Operator

POSITION SUMMARY

Function as a team leader, directly accountable for production output and quality of product produced at the work cell, including training, oversight, and guidance of lesser trained operators within the cell. Track run order status and assure accurate product identification. Observe & qualify plastics introduced to the sort table. Observe the manufacturing process and react to countermeasure errors effecting quality and efficiency. Coordinate and facilitate with Pitch Hilo driver for new material at the belt, and the Catch Hilo for removal of material from the production cell. Complete production paperwork and review run orders, perform product inspections, and communicate with Shift Supervisor

Work Schedule:

  • 1st Shift (7:00am – 3:30pm)
  • 2nd Shift (3:00pm – 11:30am)
  • 3rd Shift (10pm – 6:30am)

ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform in a leadership role as a team leader for production working with supervisors on problem solving, also leading and assisting management in driving change initiatives.
  • Communicate with the Pitch Hilo Driver to ensure material adherence to the run order.
  • Observe & Qualify scrap plastic introduced onto the sort table.
  • Remove all plastic that does not match with the run orders.
  • Communicate with Catch Hilo Driver for timely feedback on processed materials quality.
  • Communicate with Production Manager and Quality Manager about material issues.
  • Perform & document dispositions of materials.
  • Clear minor jams and any machine malfunctions.
  • Utilize and operate hand tools such as grinders, saws-all, and basic hand tools.
  • Ensure all processes are followed as document to ensure adherence to the ISO standard.
  • Coordinate and lead cleaning, organizing, and sweeping production work cell, including underneath all machinery and conveyor belts, as well as Hilo box banding area to comply with the 5s lean principals
    Perform & document hands on training of specific tasks.
  • Responsible for team member proficiency documentation and ensure signed off by Supervisor.
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork and forms.
  • Complete all other duties as the Supervisor deems necessary.

  • Education and Experience:

High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three months related experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for prolong periods of time; continually use hands to finger, handle, and grab; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb, stoop and crouch; talk; and hear. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this job includes the ability to visually identify product not meeting quality standards.
  • Use hands to operate equipment, write, finger, handle, feel, reach with both hand and arm. Talk and hear. As needed, walk all areas of the plant from department to department. Physical demands are consistent for those found in a warehouse and production environment.
  • Noise level is moderate to heavy and typical of a warehouse and production environment for the Plastics Recycling industry.
  • Overtime, which may include weekends, will be required as necessary.
  • While performing the duties of the job, employees are exposed to moving mechanical parts, equipment, and machines.
